Why are dogs so happy all the time? Well, dogs are angry, they bark, they protect, they kill. But there is a happiness in dogs that is unique. Where does it come from? Hard question to answer, but we can look at how dogs act in order to hopefully find some clues.
For today, let’s look at dogs sniffing each others’ butts. Imagine people did that with each other every time they met. That would lower the bar of acceptance so low that anything else after that would be considered simply “who you are”. Instead, we wear pants and perfume and pretend we’re higher than our basest features. Yet maybe it’s this hiding itself which is our most base quality. Maybe the dogs have it right, by airing our dirt, we clean our souls.
