Discovery of the Day
The concept of Dog Island is very new. There is a lot of concern
over the behavioral patterns that emerge on the island. We
have a talented set of Dogologists working on the island.
What is happening is very exciting! The dogs are behaving
in ways that are surprising many people. We have trained lead
dogs that train the other dogs, but really, naturally, they
are creating a very beautiful society. The discoveries that
are being made are being made daily. This is exciting new
territory. You can sign up for the daily discovery email.
Pack Formations |

"I have been ignoring many beautiful things
to focus, for some reason, on the pack formations. These
are made up mostly from the dogs that for one reason or
another refused to settle down. Maybe i feel some sort of
samenes...
There are 7 clear nation-state level packs. There is
a flux inbetween as many of the dogs are quite happy to
participate in the events of the others. This makes it
a bit funny actually when some of the war lord pack leaders
try to incite conflict and end up with a group of really
happy dogs.
There is so much to be done"

Dogs are Developing Musical Talents |
2003-03-31 13:36:56 |
"I have been placing microphones in the caves
on the island, and in several different places. The dogs
understand what is going on, and they are beginning to play
with the sounds they are able to create. There are a few
that are very talented and who have been playing together.
I am shocked and amazed by this, I never dreamed that they
would attempt to create rhythms, harmonies and express emotions.

Families Forming |

"Zoei and Ron have made a huge break-through
in their relationship together!! Ron used to be so jealous
if Zoei flirted with other dogs. But they dissappeared into
the mountians together for 2 weeks, apprantly to vacation
from society. I saw them playing rock games with each other
and then on their return Ron was confident and the two were
a stellar couple, faithful to each other and strong in their
passsion with each other. " -- Pickly Rodgers, Dogologist

Circles in the Sand |
2003-03-27 09:14:18 |
Today a black lab couple were drawing circles
together in the soft sand on the island. They were showing
their daughter and she started to draw them too! Given the
chance to socialize with each other they are learning new
things! Things we could never teach them. How foolish we've
been!" -- Richard Dawkins, Dogologist.

Coupling and Breeding Patterns
This has been one of the most uplifting and beautiful behavioral
patterns we have witnessed so far. The dogs, upon entering the
island, are finally free from all the repression they have lived
in and do, as expected, spend a major portion of their first
week relieving that tension. But afterwards, amazingly, they
begin to see out only the other dogs they really like to be
with, and eventually almost all of them find a partner that
they stay with! They have been forming very small families and
respecting each other's territories for the most part.
Care Networks
James Laclara, one of our socio-dogologists, has been observing
the village effect on all of the Dog Islands. They have identified
key members in the community. One Irish setter has a tremendous
antibiotic in her lick and has become the medical attention
go-to dog. She has been given a privileged cave position and
is often honored by the dogs in a circle. They are also aware
of who to go to in disputes. A rather elegant great dane is
always consulted before any disputes are taken too far (unless
they happen in the far off hills).
